Allen Range Bag Reviews – Rangemaster Shooting Bag and Master Tactical Range Bag
Founded in 1972 and based in Broomfield, Colorado, The Allen Company has become a world class supplier of outdoor accessories and products, the company has prided itself on becoming a name trusted by gun enthusiasts from coast to coast. Their products are categorically exceptional, and below, we’ll take a look at two Allen range bags to see how they’re similar, how they’re different, what customers are saying about them, and which one is the best range bag for you.
Allen Company Master Tactical Range Bag
With a retail price that can be a bit off-putting ($80+), your first inclination would be to discount this bag. If you did, you’d be missing out because in all actuality this is a bargain by any definition. As you’ll see below, the bag has very nearly 100% favorable customer range bag reviews, and no flaws of any consequence.
In a true effort to give a balanced opinion, through my personal usage and the reviews listed online, it was difficult to find anything negative to say about this range bag. That’s how good it is.
There’s certainly no shortage of space in the Master Tactical Range Bag. With a roomy primary compartment measuring 18”x9”x9” you’ll have plenty of space for your guns, ammunition (removable), plus eyes and ear protection. With an array of large external pockets (including a water bottle compartment), you’ll be able to bring plenty of ammo inside it’s stretchable magazine pouches that can hold 8 mags. There is also a long zippered side pocket that is very spacious on each side of the main compartment.
The company uses a specialized material called endura, which as its name suggests, is known for its durability. It’s a rugged bag that will stand up well to regular use. You won’t have to worry about rips, tears, or the safety of the gear you’re storing inside. The Allen Company is known for producing quality gear, and they’ve pulled out all the stops with this offering.
Probably one of the best features of the Master Tactical is its sheer flexibility, and here, you can really tell that Allen listens to their customers. There’s a removable bag for ammo and a 13”x7” handgun case, as well as a removable web carrying strap with a shoulder pad for added comfort. However you want to use the Master Tactical, it’s got the flexibility build into its design to allow for that. Really top quality product in that regard.
Over 95% of customers rated this product favorably (4 or 5 stars) with no customers rating this product unfavorably (1 or 2 stars)
Best Loved Feature – Roominess and durability.
Most Frequent Complaint – A little pricey (originally, there was a complaint about no lockable zippers, but the company listened to their customers and fixed this)
A really well conceived and executed range bag, ultra durable and flexible. There are tons of individuals who are reporting back after years of ownership that this bag is still functional and working like they day they bought it. If you can afford it, this is a stellar choice for enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Allen Company Rangemaster Shooting Bag
Reasonably priced at under $40, this Allen Shooting bag is extremely hard to ignore. At a price about half of the Master Tactical, you may be inclined to write this range bag off as light weight or a “range bag for beginners,” but it would be a mistake to do so, as you will see just below. Let’s look at the range backpack’s characteristics:
With a main compartment that measures 6.2”x15.8”x12” you definitely won’t be complaining about a lack of space. There’s plenty of room here to carry the guns and whatever else you might want to bring with you to the range. The primary compartment expands with two zippers and a velcro seal. Within that compartment are 2 padded gun sleeves.
Externally, you’ll find 3 zippered pockets, 2 of which are ideal for holding various magazines. The third pocket is a rather wide zippered pouch. On the flip side, there is an open pocket that can hold smaller, snug items.
The Rangemaster range bag is durable and well made, but as you’ll see below, the one area where this bag loses points is on the zippers. Their durability just doesn’t match up with the rest of the bag. If you’re careful with them, and take care not to overload the bag, you’ll be fine, but the point is, you’ve got to be careful. If that’s a tradeoff you can live with, then it’s still an exceptional value for the money. There is also no shoulder strap, instead two handles to transport the Allen Range bag. Also, in order from chipping away at the bottom of the bag from constant contact with the ground, there’s 4 pegs that deflect the blow.
The big thing here is the two gun rugs. The product’s description has created a bit of confusion on this point, but customer reviews and Amazon customer service confirm that the bag comes with two gun rugs, meant to keep your firearms from being banged around and scratched. That alone makes it worth considering.
Over 90% of customers rated this product favorably (4 or 5 stars) and less than 5% of the customers rated this product unfavorably (1 or 2 stars)
Best Loved Feature – Two gun rugs, which makes this an excellent value for the money. The price is also spot on.
Most Frequent Complaint – Weak zippers so take care not to overload and tax your Rangemaster shooting bag beyond it’s limits.
If you’re on a budget, this is probably the best range bag that limited dollars can buy. It’s an exceptionally well designed product for the money, and is almost universally loved by Allen customers.
An alternative, and close comparison, to these two Allen bags is the Maxpedition Compact and Multi Purpose Range Bags.
